Career opportunities

SCK•CEN: behind these six capitals, more than 700 dedicated people advance the peaceful, sustainable, medical and industrial applications of nuclear nuclear science and technology.

SCK•CEN is one of the largest research centres in Belgium with laboratories in Mol (Boeretang 200, 2400 Mol), in the middle of the campine's nature and registred office in Brussels (Herrmann-Debrouxlaan 40, 1160 Brussels).

Our mission

Our statutory mission gives the priority to research on issues of societal concern: safety of nuclear installations, radiation protection, safe treatment and disposal of radioactive waste, fight against uncontrolled proliferation of fissile materials, education and training.

Our research activities are concentrated in three scientific institutes which study each a specific field of nuclear applications. A fourth institute ensures the supporting services and administration.

Nuclear Materials Science

The institute for Nuclear Materials Science develops and assesses new and existing materials for their suitability in nuclear applications. The research realises the scientific (physical chemical phenomenological) and technological (experimentally empirical) follow-up and prediction of the reliable functioning of the materials in the given working conditions.

Advanced Nuclear Systems

The institute for Advanced Nuclear Systems performs research on the development and the testing of technologies and instrumentation for new reactors. New nuclear measuring techniques, reactor modelling and reactor safety are also examined. These competences are aimed at the realisation of an innovative research installation.

Environment, Health and Safety

The institute for Environment, Health and Safety evaluates radiological effects on our health and the environment and studies the behaviour and the impact of radioactive materials in the air, in water and in the ground by means of modelling and experiments. Radiation protection, decommissioning and waste and disposal are the main pillars. EHS also pays attention to services, safeguards and policy support, and examines the integration of social and ethical aspects in nuclear applications.

Corporate Services and Administration

The institute for Corporate Services and Administration deals with knowledge management and co-ordinates courses on the fundamentals and applications of nuclear research. CSA also comprises the administrative, financial, logistic and central technical services, as well as human resources and ICT.
