Executive Officers

The Board of Governors founds the Executive Officers group, respecting the language parity.

The Executive Officers:

• control the implementation of the decisions of the Board of Governors and make sure that the decisions made by the Board of Governors or the Executive Officers themselves are carried out by the Director-General;
• prepare the meetings of the Board of Governors;
• carry out the powers transferred to them;
• stimulate the scientific and other activities of SCK•CEN;
• follow up the execution of the budget;
• follow up the realisation of the scientific research programmes.

Chairman

The Chairman (or in his absence the Vice-Chairmen):

• presides the meetings of the Board of Governors and the Executive Officers;
• fixes their agenda, in consultation with the Director-General;
• is responsible for the good functioning of the Board of Governors and the Executive Officers, and as such for the organisation of the secretariat and the services of the Board. He controls the observance of the statutory provisions;
• takes the necessary measures in order to stimulate the co-ordination between the different decision-making and advisory bodies of SCK•CEN;
• takes the necessary measures, in consultation with the Director-General, in order to encourage the co-operation with other scientific, Belgian or foreign research centres or institutes;
• signs or co-signs administrative and legal documents on behalf of the Board of Governors if it is statutorily or regulatory required. He can partially or entirely transfer this competence to the Managing Director or a Vice-Chairman;
• carries out the powers transferred to him by a special and reasoned deliberation of the Board.

In case of high urgency, the Chairman takes all urgent measures on his own authority, as much as possible in consultation with the Director-General and the members of the Executive Officers and/or the Board of Governors. He makes them pending during the next meeting of the Board or the Executive Officers.

Managing Director

The Managing Director is appointed by the Board of Governors and carries out the powers transferred to him by the Board of Governors and/or the Executive Officers.
