The PISA research approach

Alongside the research within the specific projects, the PISA group engages in a continuous reflection on the specific aspects of its transdisciplinary and reflexive research approach. This is done by way of regular discussion meetings and occasional reflection groups in interaction with other SCK•CEN researchers and the outside science and policy community.

The various aspects of this research approach can be presented according to three different focuses:

1. Focus on governance concepts

  • Philosophy of 'driving principles' (precaution, sustainable development)
  • Reference (ethics, law)
  • Involvement methods & philosophy (PTA tools, democracy, science-policy interface)
  • Expert culture

2. Focus on research method

  • Corporate culture
  • Decision making tools
  • Barometer
  • Inclusive research (participatory research)
  • Reflection groups
  • Transdisciplinarity

3. Focus on research & interaction level

  • SCK•CEN internal
  • Local, regional
  • National
  • International (European, UN)
