PRF: a reloadable facility for the production of radioisotopes

PRF: Primary Reloadable water-cooled device for Fissile targets:
a reloadable facility for the production of radioisotopes ⁹⁹ Mo, ¹³¹ I, ¹³³ Xe by ²³⁵ U target irradiation in BR2

The PRF facility consists of 4 in pile rigs for the irradiation of high enriched uranium targets and their control units. These rigs are designed to be cooled by primary reactor water and to be loaded/unloaded during the reactor operation using an ingenious lock.

This simple and robust design allows already 20 years the production of ⁹⁹ Mo for medicinal use. Because of the increasing demand, two additional PRF rigs are in consideration.
