The IOP expert group

The Infrastructure Operation expert group designs and constructs new hot cells and hot cell equipment, and takes care of the mechanical and electrical/electronic maintenance of all research infrastructures within the NMS institute.

The expert group operates the SCK•CEN mechanical workshop for the construction and assembly of metal parts. It assembles and dismantles experimental irradiation devices including the reconditioning, handling and shipping of radioisotopes.

To conclude, IOP manages the nuclear materials flows within the institute: transports, fuel accountancy, waste conditioning and characterisation.

Co-operation

To accomplish its research programme lines, the institute co-operates closely with the institute for Advanced Nuclear Systems (ANS) that designs and builds the reactor experimental rigs and provides instrumentation and n-physics expertise and support to the scientific irradiation experiments.
